Moving to a new country is as challenging as it is exciting. In an effort to help newcomers and potential immigrants to Canada, ECO Canada has created an Online Immigrant Centre with the help of immigrant serving agencies and immigrants from across Canada.
The portal is divided into four main areas:
- Background Information: This section is intended to provide newcomers and potential immigrants with all the necessary information they need in order to assess whether or not the environmental sector meets their career aspirations.
- Employer Perspectives: It is useful to understand the employer’s perspective in order to have the necessary tools to overcome barriers. This section takes the perspective of the employers and highlights common frustrations employers face when hiring new Canadians. It also identifies a host of valuable resources available to overcome these barriers.
- How to get the job: The earlier you prepare the better chance you will have of making a successful transition. This part of the portal addresses job searching strategies and resources grouped for both potential immigrants to Canada and newcomers already here.
- Links: Links are available to immigrant agencies and associations throughout Canada that may be of use to newcomers or potential immigrants.
To access the Immigrant Centre:
- Visit www.eco.ca and sign up as a practitioner. If you already have a user account with ECO Canada, simply log in. Registration and use of the immigrant centre is completely free of charge.
- Once you have logged in, click on the Immigrant Centre link on the left hand navigation bar.
